The Marriage Ministry's mission is to inspire, encourage and equip married couples and those who are preparing for marriage, by providing practical, Biblical resources through seminars, retreats, monthly classes and counseling. The Ministry strives to help each husband and wife to have the heart of Christ so they become a financially, emotionally and spiritually stable union.
The Marriage Ministry held its 2017 Fall Retreat again in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee in the Great Smoky Mountains. The 2017 Retreat was held September 21-23, 2017 and the Ministry rented two of the three cabins that had been used in 2016. The 2017 Retreat was attended by 18 married couples, 17 from Woodland Park Church of Christ and a married couple that are friends of Bro. and Sister George Turner, Sr. Breakfast and dinner were provided by the couples and cooked in the cabins. On Friday, September 22, people had free time to enjoy the sights and attractions of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Some went shopping, some sight-seeing, and others for spa treatments.
It would not have been a Marriage Retreat without some counseling on marriage. The first night, the couples were provided with three evaluation forms that were to give each spouse insight into the other. After completing the evaluations, there was an open discussion among them about what some had written on their evaluations. This brought out some pent-up and charged emotions by some of the couples. The second night, Sis. Sonya Wilson put together three skits that demonstrated some of the issues married people face on a daily basis. After each skit, there was a lively discussion of the issues presented in each one. After that, the couples enjoyed several games of bingo and the winners were given gifts.
We were blessed with beautiful weather, safe travels, good food, and good fellowship. Many thanks to the Marriage Ministry and Sis. LaVonda Hildreth for their hard work.
